Bacopa, MegaCopa

MegaCopa Bacopa (Sutera cordata) is a blooming annual plant that is notable for its well-branched habits, flowers that are larger than other varieties and improved heat performance. This trophy worthy variety produces hundreds of self-cleaning flowers that densely cover the plant. It fills in well and does not grow with spaces as some bacopa varieties. The leaves are medium to deep green and grow abundantly along the stems. The plant has a mounding/trailing habit and grows 10 to 12” high with a spread of 20 to 24”. MegaCopa Bacopa is a great choice for growing in baskets, planters and boxes as they create glowing color spilling over the sides. An excellent choice to use alone or as an accent plant. In the garden they are lovely atop a retaining wall, as a ground cover, or along paths and garden bed edges. This is an easy to care for plant that offers prolific blooms throughout spring and summer. MegaCopa Bacopa plants are fragrant, attract butterflies and are deer resistant.

Plant MegaCopa Bacopa in an area that receives full sun to part shade. Some protection from the afternoon sun is helpful. Space plants about 12” apart in flowerbeds, or about 6” apart in containers where they will have room to spill over the side. Choose a moderately fertile to humus rich, moist, well-draining soil. MegaCopa prefers the soil to be moist, but not soggy. Don’t allow it to dry out completely, but also don’t let it sit in standing water. Water regularly when it does not receive moisture from rain. Monitor baskets and containers frequently for dryness since they will dry out quickly in the heat. Using mulch is helpful for flowerbed plantings to help keep the soil moist and cool. Feed with a slow-release fertilizer in spring and summer for the best performance. Removing spent blooms from young plants will help the plant produce more blooms and fill out faster. If invaded by aphids or whiteflies, treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil according to the label.
